the green line

The Green Line project is based around the first 37 km Koroit to Minhamite section of the former Koroit to Hamilton Railway line, built 1860s and closed October 1977. The 110 ha footprint is crown land under Victrack jurisdiction. Basalt to Bay have collaborated with Victrack via Landcare Australia since 2012. Moyne Shire has also joined The Green Line project, and is responsible for the management of the adjoining roads and road reserves.

The Green Line holds significant scientific interest as it is one of the last remaining strongholds of remnant Victorian volcanic plains and woody grassland ecological communities – all of which are federally protected. Our project commenced in 2013 and seeks to protect, enhance and extend the quality of vegetation found along The Green Line.
