strategic plan

The Basalt to Bay Landcare Network is a community-based initiative that is generating landscape-scale change. Basalt to Bay works with local landholders, volunteers, community groups, corporations and government agencies to achieve environmental, social and economic outcomes on a regional scale.

Our tagline "conserve, restore, connect" embodies the key ideas of conserving areas of our natural habitat that have not been destroyed, restoring degraded areas, and connecting these areas to each other to form a network of corridors in which our indigenous species can live and transit safely across the rural landscape.

We envision a region of sustainable communities where local landcare and environmental groups are empowered to make a difference. In order to realise this vision, Basalt to Bay focuses on achieving the key objectives of:

  • Community engagement
  • Capacity building and education
  • Publicity and communication
  • Funding acquisition
  • Research and evaluation

Specific objectives of the Strategic Plan 2016 – 2021 are to:

  • Provide current and potential partners with an overview of the history, stakeholders, governance structure and financial management of Basalt to Bay;
  • Provide an overview of the major environmental and Landcare issues in the region;
  • Profile the achievements and projects of Landcare Groups in the region;
  • Communicate how Basalt to Bay adds value in our region and beyond to Landcare groups, landholders, communities, Government, local business, philanthropic organisations and corporate sponsors;
  • Stay well informed on local landcare initiatives and have discussions on bringing together these local initiatives with the landcare strategic activities within the region.
